Aurora Sports Park, Inc. in conjunction with the City of Aurora is in the process of developing a 20-acre addition of recreational open space grass area north of Streeter Park. The space will be used for a variety of activities including, but not limited to soccer, football, ultimate Frisbee, and spike ball. The expansion will be maintained by City of Aurora Parks and Recreation Department.
UPDATE 8/2018: The installation of the sprinkler system for the recreational area was initiated in May of 2018 and was recently completed during the first part of July 2018. Seeding the recreational area will follow.
UPDATE 1/2019: Seeding of the recreational area was completed following the installation of the sprinkler system in the summer and fall of 2018. Aurora Sports Park, Inc. submitted an application for Conditional Use to the City for a proposed restroom/storage building for the area. The Conditional Use was approved by the Planning Commission on 9/5/18. A letter of Map Amendment based on Fill (LOMR-F) was submitted to FEMA following the approval of the conditional use to remove the area for the proposed restroom and storage facility from the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). The LOMR-F determination document was received on 10/26/2018 stating that the requested are to be removed from the SFHA meets the criteria. Aurora Sports Park, Inc. is in discussions with contractors for the proposed building.
